Security forces raid former Iranian-backed militants in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The General Security forces of Syria’s transitional government launched on Wednesday a series of raids targeting former members of Iranian-backed militias who refused to reconcile their status in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

A security source told North Press that the raids focused on several neighborhoods in the town of Abu Kamal, resulting in the arrest of three individuals: Hussein al-Jarrah, Ashiq al-Saeed, and Thabet al-Barghouth—who were known to be prominent members of Iranian-aligned militias.

The source added that the crackdown came in response to a growing number of complaints against the individuals, who were reportedly still carrying weapons and had declined to participate in the reconciliation process.

Authorities also seized automatic weapons during the operation.

The source emphasized that security operations will continue until all remaining loyalists of the former regime and Iranian-backed elements who have rejected reconciliation are apprehended.
