At least 20 inmates escape from central prison in Syria’s Hama
HAMA, Syria (North Press) – Security sources said on Monday that at least 20 inmates escaped from the central Saraya Prison in the city of Hama, central Syria, during the early hours of the day.
The sources told North Press that the escapees include individuals charged with criminal offenses as well as former regime personnel.
Details regarding how the escape was carried out remain undisclosed, and it is still unclear whether any clashes or injuries occurred during the incident.
In response, security authorities launched an extensive manhunt across the areas surrounding Hama and the nearby city of Salamiyah, including at key checkpoints and city exits. Residents have been urged to report any suspicious activity or individuals.
Saraya Prison is considered one of the most prominent central detention facilities in the region. Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine how the prisoners managed to flee and to identify any security breaches that may have facilitated the escape.
