Landmine blasts kill child, injure 2 in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two separate landmine explosions in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, claimed on Sunday the life of a child and injure two others.
A local source from the village of al-Dwair in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor told North Press that a landmine detonated while 14-year-old Ahmad al-Ghazi was herding sheep in the desert surrounding the village.
The explosion caused multiple injuries across the boy’s body, leading to his death just minutes later.
In a separate incident, Ahmad al-Hajj and Abdul al-Awad were injured in the city of al-Quriyah, also in the east of Deir ez-Zor, when a landmine—believed to be a remnant of previous conflicts—exploded on the outskirts of the city’s desert area.
These incidents highlight the ongoing danger posed by unexploded ordnance in former conflict zones across Syria.
