Turkish-backed SNA militants vandalize shrine in Syria’s Sere Kaniye
SERE KANIYE, Syria (North Press) – Militants of Turkish-backed armed factions, aka the Syria National Army (SNA), vandalized a religious shrine in the eastern countryside of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), northeastern Syria, local sources said on Sunday.
The sources told North Press that SNA militants targeted the shrine of Sheikh Hussein, located between the villages of Lazka and Haj Jamal, east of Sere Kaniye.
According to the sources, the individuals involved had visited the site multiple times in recent weeks, and eventually exhumed the shrine under the pretext of searching for hidden treasures.
This is not the first such incident in the region. In 2020, SNA factions destroyed a Yazidi cemetery in the village of Jan Tamr, also in eastern Sere Kaniye.
At the time, media reports indicated that the Turkish-backed Sultan Murad faction was responsible for vandalizing tombstones and dismantling the iron fence surrounding the cemetery.
