Turkey constructs new military bases in north Syria – SDF
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Thursday that Turkey is escalating attacks and constructing new military bases in northern Syria, taking advantage of Syria’s weakened authority.
In a statement, the SDF said that despite international efforts to enforce a ceasefire across Syria, Turkey continues its military escalation in the northeastern Syria.
The statement revealed that the Turkish forces are secretly transporting vehicles and military supplies at night to build new bases in Qaraqozaq Hill, on the west bank of the Euphrates River, and in the village of Hassan Agha, southeast of Manbij.
According to the SDF, Turkey employs covert methods to establish these bases, avoiding the use of flags or official markings, despite already having over 200 military bases in Syria.
Drone images released by the SDF show the newly constructed bases across a wide geographical area, with watchtowers, tank and artillery fortifications, and military headquarters. Some of these bases are still under construction, while others appear fully operational.
The SDF added that Turkey is using these bases to expand its military presence, launch attacks on northeastern Syria, and push deeper into Syrian territory in an effort to establish a long-term military occupation.
