ISIS militants carry out 3 attacks in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) have carried out since Sunday three attacks in the Deir ez-Zor countryside, eastern Syria, targeting a residence and two businesses for allegedly refusing to pay zakat (Islamic tax).
A local source from the town of Hawaij, eastern Deir ez-Zor, said that ISIS militants on motorcycles stormed the home of Abboud al-Ahmad, an oil well investor, at dawn on Monday.
The attack led to an exchange of gunfire, during which al-Ahmad was shot and wounded, and his house sustained material damage.
The source told North Press that al-Ahmad had previously received multiple threats via WhatsApp, demanding a $10,000 zakat payment to the terrorist group.
In the same town, ISIS militants also raided a money transfer shop, leaving Younis Abdul Razzaq injured after he refused to comply with their extortion demands.
Additionally, the source noted that Mahmoud al-Ramadan, a shop owner in the village of al-Jarzi was targeted with a silenced pistol inside his mobile phone store by the militants.
