SDF calls for continued international support in fight against ISIS
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reaffirmed on Sunday the need for sustained international support in combating ISIS, marking the sixth anniversary of the group’s defeat in its last stronghold, Baghuz, east of Deir ez-Zor.
In a statement published on its official website, the SDF emphasized that ISIS continues to exploit circumstances to rebuild its presence, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in preventing its resurgence.
The statement also addressed the ongoing issue of thousands of ISIS detainees, including many foreign nationals, stressing that a comprehensive solution is needed.
The SDF reiterated its call for the establishment of an international tribunal to ensure fair trials for these individuals.
Furthermore, the SDF highlighted that global support remains crucial in the ongoing battle against ISIS, as its threat extends beyond Syria to the rest of the world.
The statement called for sustained political and military backing to eliminate the group’s influence once and for all.
On March 23, 2019, the SDF officially declared the liberation of the final ISIS-held territory in Baghuz, bringing an end to the group’s territorial control in Syria.
