AANES urges international action to return Afrin’s IDPs homes
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) urged on Tuesday the international community, the Global Coalition, and the Syrian transitional government to take action to end the suffering of displaced population from Afrin region, northwestern Syria.
Marking the seventh anniversary of Turkey’s occupation of Afrin, the AANES called for intervention to ensure their return to their homes in northern Aleppo.
On Jan. 20, 2018, Turkish forces, alongside affiliated armed factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), launched a 58-day ground and air assault on Afrin region.
In an official statement, the AANES urged swift international intervention to pressure Turkey and the transitional government to facilitate the return of the displaced.
“Seven years have passed under occupation, and policies of ethnic cleansing and genocide continue at the hands of the occupying forces and terrorist groups, especially following the fall of the previous regime,” the statement read.
The AANES also expressed solidarity with those forcibly displaced from Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad, reiterating its demand for pressure on Turkey and the transitional government to ensure their return.
