EU pledges €5.8 billion in aid for Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The European Union and its partners pledged on Monday €5.8 billion ($6.3 billion) in aid to Syria and its neighboring countries, marking a significant commitment to addressing urgent humanitarian needs and supporting the country’s transition.

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated that the European commitment aims to assist Syria during a critical transitional phase, emphasizing that the aid will directly address pressing realities on the ground.

The announcement was made during the 9th Brussels Conference, titled “Standing with Syria: Meeting the Needs for a Successful Transition.” Kallas highlighted that this moment presents an opportunity for the Syrian people to take charge of their future.

During the conference, the European Commission for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management revealed plans to gradually ease sanctions on Syria and engage in its reconstruction efforts.

The pledge and policy shift indicate a potential turning point in the international approach to Syria, as the EU signals a readiness to play a more active role in post-conflict recovery.
