DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Clashes broke out on Sunday evening along the Syrian-Lebanese border after three personnel of the Syrian Ministry of Defense were killed by Lebanese gunmen in the Qasr area.
The media office of the Syrian Ministry of Defense said a group affiliated with the Lebanese Hezbollah ambushed and kidnapped three soldiers before executing them inside Lebanese territory.
The Ministry warned that it would take all necessary measures in response to what it described as a serious escalation by Hezbollah. In response, the Syrian army deployed military reinforcements to the border, intensifying tensions in the area.
Hezbollah, however, denied any involvement in the incident. In a statement, the group reiterated that it has no connection to any events taking place inside Syrian territory.
Meanwhile, local sources in the western Homs countryside, near the Qusayr region, noted an increase in civilian displacement from villages along the border due to the escalating hostilities.
Social media activists also shared videos allegedly showing Syrian army shelling targeting areas inside Lebanon, prompting a similar wave of displacement on the Lebanese side.
