Attacks in Syria’s Daraa claim 5 lives, including defected diplomat
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Two separate attacks carried out on Tuesday by unidentified gunmen in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria, claimed the lives of five people, including a defected diplomat.
Sources told North Press that unidentified assailants stormed the home of Nour al-Din al-Labbad in the city of al-Sanamayn, north of Daraa.
Al-Labbad, a diplomat who defected from the former Syrian regime in 2013, was shot dead on the spot along with his brother, Imad.
Al-Labbad had returned to Syria from France only two weeks before his assassination. Prior to his defection, he held the position of Minister Plenipotentiary at the Syrian Ministry of Interior, serving in several embassies, including those in Paris, Ankara, and Benghazi.
In a separate attack in the northeastern countryside rural Daraa, unidentified gunmen carried out another assassination on the road between the city of al-Hirak and the town of Nahtah, killing three young men.
The victims were identified as brothers Abdullah Abdul-Karim Younis al-Deek and Mohammed Abdul-Karim Younis al-Deek, along with their cousin, Tareq Khaled al-Deek.
Sources confirmed that the victims were civilians with no prior affiliations to any military factions. Tareq al-Deek had returned to Syria from Jordan just one week before his tragic killing.
