QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Hundreds of residents took to the streets in Hasakah and Qamishli on Tuesday to protest against ongoing violations in Syria’s coastal region, demanding accountability for civilian casualties and an end to military operations harming local communities.

The demonstrators held banners condemning the recent violence, with messages such as “Hasakah residents denounce massacres against our people in the coastal region.” Protesters also carried pictures of victims, calling for justice and international intervention.

Speaking to North Press, protester Azeddine Kado emphasized the importance of holding perpetrators accountable. “It is crucial to bring those responsible for these massacres to justice. Innocent civilians, including children, have been killed, and this must stop,” he said.

Hajar Mohammed, another demonstrator, expressed concerns about the humanitarian impact of the violence. “We do not want more bloodshed or the forced displacement of civilians. What crime have students and children committed to be subjected to these violations?” she asked.

In recent days, security operations in Syria’s coastal region have intensified, targeting remnants of the former regime following deadly attacks on public security outposts. These operations have led to widespread clashes, causing hundreds of casualties and raising fears of further instability.

Local activists and human rights organizations have reported civilian suffering due to the ongoing violence. Protesters in northeast Syria, particularly in Hasakah and Qamishli, have voiced solidarity with affected communities, urging authorities to halt indiscriminate actions that harm non-combatants.

The protests highlight growing frustration with continued instability in Syria and the perceived failure of international actors to prevent civilian harm. Analysts suggest that such demonstrations reflect broader discontent with the deteriorating security situation and demand for more accountability in conflict zones.

With tensions escalating in multiple regions, including northeast Syria, political observers warn that further unrest could deepen existing divisions and complicate efforts to achieve lasting peace.

As calls for justice grow louder, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether authorities take meaningful steps to address the concerns raised by protesters.
