SDF-Government agreement step toward resolving Syria’s crises – AANES leader
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Badran Chiya Kurd, a senior leader in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), said on Monday night the agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian government is a significant and historic step toward addressing Syria’s long-standing challenges.
Speaking after attending a meeting in Damascus with Mazloum Abdi, commander in Chief of the SDF, Chiya Kurd expressed optimism that the agreement could open the door to progress on multiple critical issues.
In a post on X, Chiya Kurd revealed that discussions focused on the recent escalation on the Syrian coast and the necessity of ending military operations and crimes committed there. He emphasized the need to halt all ongoing attacks inside Syrian territory.
The Kurdish issue was also a key point of discussion, described as a Syrian national concern. Chiya Kurd stated that it was agreed upon that a joint Kurdish delegation would engage in dialogue with Syria’s transitional leadership to explore solutions in depth.
Additionally, talks with Damascus covered the status of the AANES, its institutions, and its military and security forces, focusing on their integration into national Syrian structures. Both sides agreed to continue negotiations through specialized committees to work out the details.
The return of displaced Syrians and refugees—particularly residents of Afrin and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain)—was another major point of discussion. Chiya Kurd noted that Syria’s transitional administration has pledged to take concrete steps to facilitate their safe return.
