Arab States, GCC welcome SDF-government agreement
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) welcomed on Monday the agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian caretaker government to recognize Kurdish rights and ensure the integration of key institutions, and sets the framework for joint security cooperation.
Qatar expressed its support for the deal, which marks a significant development in Syria’s political landscape.
Saudi Arabia described the agreement as a step toward preserving civil peace in the country, while Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement calling it an important move toward Syria’s reconstruction.
GCC Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed al-Budaiwi praised the integration of SDF into Syrian state institutions, stating, “I hope this unification will contribute to stability, development, and the reinforcement of Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and independence.”
He further urged all Syrian factions to prioritize national unity and reconciliation, emphasizing the importance of ensuring civilian safety and achieving lasting peace.
Al-Budaiwi reaffirmed the GCC’s commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive political transition in Syria.
The Syrian Presidency officially announced the agreement on Monday evening, confirming that SDF will be incorporated into the country’s state institutions.
