SDF confirms continued fight against ISIS amid talks with Damascus
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A senior commander in the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) confirmed on Tuesday that their mission to combat the Islamic State (ISIS) remains unchanged following an agreement with the Syrian caretaker government.
Speaking to North Press, the SDF official stated, “Our General Commander, Mazloum Abdi, is still in Damascus, and negotiations are ongoing.”
He emphasized that the primary objective of countering ISIS remains intact while revealing that discussions with Damascus have also centered on facilitating the return of displaced residents from Afrin, Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), and Tel Abyad to their homes.
The official disclosed that in the coming period, the SDF and the Syrian Army will conduct joint operations against ISIS in the Syrian desert.
