Asayish intercept weapons smuggling attempt into Raqqa
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) announced on Sunday intercepting a weapons smuggling attempt late last week at the Tabqa crossing in Raqqa’s countryside, northern Syria, seizing a significant quantity of ammunition destined for northeastern Syria.
In a statement, the Asayish said, “Last Wednesday, our Anti-Crime Unit successfully confiscated a shipment of ammunition while inspecting a vehicle at the al-Tabqa crossing, located on the administrative borders of al-Tabqa city.”
The collapse of the former regime has led to widespread weapons proliferation, as individuals seized stockpiles from its former military sites.
The statement detailed that 20,400 rounds of Kalashnikov ammunition were discovered hidden inside tightly sealed boxes.
The driver was immediately taken into custody, and an investigation was launched to uncover further details regarding the smuggling attempt. He was later referred to the Public Prosecution to complete the legal proceedings against him.
