Protests erupt in Syria’s Suwayda against Netanyahu’s remarks
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Hundreds of demonstrators gathered on Tuesday in al-Karama Square in Suwayda city, southern Syria, to protest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent statements regarding the protection of the Druze community and the disarmament of southern Syria.
Residents of the city took to the streets to reject what they described as foreign interference, emphasizing the unity of the Syrian people across all sectarian and ethnic backgrounds.
The demonstrators also condemned Turkey’s military presence in northern Syria, calling for the withdrawal of Turkish forces and reaffirming their stance on Syria’s territorial integrity.
The demonstrators urged the newly formed Syrian government to take a clear and firm position against Netanyahu’s remarks, stressing the need for an official response.
Netanyahu’s comments, made on Feb. 23, called for the disarmament of areas in Quneitra, Daraa, and Suwayda, sparking widespread backlash across Syria.
