Syria’s caretaker government imports gas from AANES areas

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Ministry of Oil imports gas from the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) under an existing contract between both parties, Ahmad al-Suleiman, ministry’s Director of Public Relations and Media in the Syrian caretaker government said on Wednesday.

Speaking to North Press, al-Suleiman explained that the contract for procuring natural gas from AANES territories had been in place even before the fall of al-Assad regime.

“After assuming control of the Ministry of Oil, we conducted a thorough review of all contracts, including the gas supply agreement from the eastern Euphrates region,” he stated.

“The contract was assessed by a legal committee, certain terms were modified, and we have continued working under it to ensure a steady supply of gas to Syrian territories.”

The official emphasized that no new contract had been signed, adding that the existing agreement was reviewed and amended by legal experts before being maintained.

Suleiman refrained from disclosing specific details of the current contract with the AANES but noted that the imported gas would enhance power generation and local production. “This is a positive step toward achieving energy self-sufficiency through local resources,” he added.
