Syrian security officer killed, others injured in attack in Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – A member of Syria’s Internal Security forces was killed and several others were injured on Tuesday following an attack by gunmen affiliated with the former Syrian regime in Idlib Governorate, northwestern Syria.

The former regime gunmen attacked a military patrol of the Internal Security forces on the Maarrat al-Numan – Khan Shaykhun road in the southern countryside of Idlib.

A local source told North Press that the attackers, riding in a vehicle, opened fire on a patrol belonging to the Internal Security forces.

“Gunmen from the former regime ambushed the patrol on the Maarrat al-Numan – Khan Shaykhun road, resulting in the killing of one security officer and the injury of others,” the source stated.

Members of the General Security forces of Syria’s new administration frequently face attacks by former regime defectors in the region. In response, the Military Operations Command and the General Security forces continue to pursue those responsible for such incidents.

Security tensions remain high in the south of Idlib as the area witnesses sporadic clashes between security units and remnants of groups affiliated with the previous Syrian government.
