3 former Iranian-backed militants found dead in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Residents of Deir ez-Zor countryside, eastern Syria, discovered between Sunday and Monday morning the bodies of a commander and two former militants from Iranian-backed militias, who were found dead under mysterious circumstances.

A local source told North Press that townspeople came across the bodies of two militants from the Iranian-backed al-Quds militia, both fatally shot in the head, near an abandoned house in the Suqra neighborhood on the outskirts of the town of Abu Kamal. One of the victims was identified as Saad al-Dandal.

The source added that another body was found the day before on agricultural land outside the city center. The victim was identified as Youssef al-Youssef, also known as Abu Issa al-Mashhadani, the leader of Group 47, a militia affiliated with Iran.

The discovery of al-Mashhadani’s body sparked anger and protests in Abu Kamal, prompting security forces to deploy patrols in an effort to restore order.
