Security raids target former NDF members in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – General Security forces of Syria’s caretaker government captured on Sunday a number of former members of the National Defense Forces (NDF), affiliated with Assad regime, in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

The capture came following the expiration of a reconciliation period for former regime-affiliated personnel.

An official from the General Security forces in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that the security units had conducted several operations across the city and its countryside, leading to the capture of NDF-affiliated individuals, including senior figures.

Among those detained were Muhammad al-Saleh, identified as a key figure responsible for torturing hundreds of Syrians and a close aide to former NDF leader Firas al-Iraqiya, as well as Nouri al-Azraq, a commander in the NDF in the Abu Kamal countryside.

The source noted that the security campaign was initiated after the reconciliation deadline had passed and in response to a surge in violent incidents and assaults in the region.
