CENTCOM announces targeting senior al-Qaeda-linked militant in Idlib
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The United States military announced on Sunday that a senior leader affiliated with al-Qaeda was killed in an airstrike in northwest Syria that was launched on Feb. 15.
In a brief statement, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the operation but did not provide further details about the strike or the identity of the militant targeted.
“On Fed. 15, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Forces conducted a precision airstrike in Northwest Syria targeting and killing a senior finance and logistics official in the terrorist organization Hurras al-Din (HaD), an Al-Qaeda affiliate,” the CENTCOM statement read.
the CENTCOM added, “The airstrike is part of CENTCOM’s ongoing commitment, along with partners in the region, to disrupt and degrade efforts by terrorists to plan, organize, and conduct attacks against civilians and military personnel from the U.S., our allies, and our partners throughout the region and beyond.”
“We will continue to relentlessly pursue terrorists in order to defend our homeland, and U.S., allied, and partner personnel in the region,” said Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, commander, U.S. Central Command.
