SDF captures key ISIS cell leader in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Saturday that they had dismantled an Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cell operating in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
According to an official statement, SDF Military Operations Teams (MOT) carried out a security operation in the Deir ez-Zor countryside, targeting a cell affiliated with ISIS, including its leader.
The statement explained that the operation was launched after SDF units gathered intelligence on the cell’s movements and hideout.
The forces subsequently surrounded the location and successfully apprehended the cell leader, identified as Abdulrahman al-Aziz, along with two other militants, Talal al-Ali and Nassar al-Aziz.
The dismantled cell had been involved in multiple attacks against SDF forces and public infrastructure in the region. It was also engaged in gathering intelligence on behalf of ISIS.
According to the SDF, Abdulrahman al-Aziz had direct contact with senior ISIS leadership.
