IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – A missile strike from an unidentified drone killed two people in a targeted attack on a vehicle in southern Idlib countryside on Saturday, according to the Syrian Civil Defense (White Helmets).
Unidentified Drone, Unconfirmed Targets
The strike occurred on the Aleppo-Latakia road near Urim al-Joz, a town in southern Idlib, a region controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and other armed groups.
While the White Helmets confirmed the deaths of two unidentified individuals, they did not specify the affiliation of the victims or whether they were civilians or militants.
Suspicions of U.S.-Led Coalition Involvement
Local sources claimed that a U.S.-led coalition MQ-9 Reaper drone was responsible for the attack, a tactic often used against al-Qaeda-affiliated groups and senior militant figures in Idlib. However, neither the coalition nor the U.S. military has issued an official statement regarding the strike.
Aftermath of the Attack
The Syrian Civil Defense stated that its teams extinguished the fire caused by the explosion, retrieved the remains of the victims, and handed them over to Idlib’s forensic department. They also cleared the area to restore normal traffic flow on the highway.
Idlib remains a volatile battleground, with drone strikes and air raids frequently targeting key figures in militant groups operating in the region. The latest attack adds to the growing list of unclaimed strikes in northern Syria, raising questions about intelligence operations and regional counterterrorism efforts.
