DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – France has expressed its readiness to provide economic resources for Syria’s new administration, Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced Thursday during the Paris Conference on Syria.
The high-level diplomatic gathering included ministers from regional powers such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Lebanon, alongside Western nations. However, the United States was represented at a lower diplomatic level.
Easing Sanctions and Economic Assistance
Speaking at the conference, Barrot emphasized France’s commitment to supporting Syria’s new leadership in stabilizing the country’s economy.
“We are working closely with our European partners to swiftly ease certain economic sanctions on Syria,” he stated.
The French minister reaffirmed Paris’ willingness to assist the Syrian administration in achieving its economic and political goals, stressing the importance of creating a peaceful and stable environment for Syria’s reintegration into the region.
Hopes for a Successful Transition
Barrot also underscored the necessity of an inclusive political transition in Syria, stating:
“We need a transitional period where all components of Syrian society are represented. Syrians deserve restorative justice, and this is a long-term mission.”
He reiterated France’s commitment to aiding Syria’s reconstruction, emphasizing that a peaceful transition requires the silencing of guns across the country.
International Engagement and Next Steps
The Paris Conference on Syria aimed to foster international support for the country’s transition while addressing regional security concerns. France’s stance aligns with European efforts to balance diplomatic re-engagement with the need for reforms and accountability in Syria.
More details on potential sanctions relief and economic aid are expected in the coming weeks as discussions continue among European and Middle Eastern partners.
