Syrian National Dialogue committee excludes SDF from participation
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The preparatory committee for the Syrian National Dialogue Conference held on Thursday its first press conference in Damascus, announcing its work agenda following the committee’s formation by the Syrian presidency a day earlier.
North Press correspondent who attended the conference reported that the committee clarified the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) would not be invited to the dialogue, stating that the group “does not represent the eastern governorates or their residents.”
The committee emphasized that the conference would uphold Syria’s diversity and promote open dialogue, rejecting any form of sectarian power-sharing. “Our goal is to preserve Syria’s unity—both its land and its people,” the committee declared.
It added that all Syrians are encouraged to participate in the dialogue, with the committee set to draft its internal regulations.
It stressed that there would be no pre-determined discussion topics or directives for citizens.
Hassan al-Daghim, member of the preparatory committee, said, “The Assadist sect has no place except before the courts of justice.”
The committee described its members as “experts who have spent years in Idlib and Aleppo leading dialogue initiatives. They possess deep knowledge of Syrian society, enabling them to select representatives from all governorates.”
Another committee member noted that “the timing of the conference, the number of participants, and the discussion topics remain open for public debate and will be determined in the coming days.
Several key decisions have already been settled under the new administration.”
The committee clarified that it would issue recommendations rather than binding decisions upon the conference’s conclusion.
Speaking to North Press, committee member Huda al-Atassi highlighted the role of women in the upcoming dialogue, stating, “Women will actively participate in the conference and play a significant role in building a new Syria.”
