DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The U.N. Security Council is set to convene on Wednesday to address the unfolding situation in Syria.
During the meeting, Special Envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen will provide a detailed briefing on Syria’s current status.
In late January, Jennifer Fenton, spokeswoman for the U.N. Special Envoy, told North Press that Pedersen is fully aware of Damascus’s recent announcements regarding transitional developments.
Fenton emphasized, “The United Nations continues to support a credible, inclusive Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political transition that addresses the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people, in accordance with the core principles outlined in Security Council resolution 2254, including the formation of a transitional government, the drafting of a new constitution, and the holding of free and fair elections.”
