Druze leader calls on Syrian government for political, military participation
SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Osama al-Safadi, leader of the Jaysh al-Muwahhidun, a Druze armed faction, called on Saturday on the Damascus government to grant political and military representation to his faction.
In an exclusive statement to North Press, al-Safadi emphasized their right to participation in courts, local councils, and military institutions.
“We believe in justice, but the previous regime erased our presence,” he noted. “We have rights that we do not want anyone to take away.”
He further stressed their demand for representation in the Syrian parliament and government ministries, urging Damascus to unify ranks.
“We have already united as an army,” he said, noting that their group was formed from multiple factions and now seeks formal integration into the Syrian military.
The Jaysh al-Muwahhidun was established in December 2024 as an alliance of several local factions in Suwayda, aiming to consolidate their presence and influence in the region.
