148 Iraqi families leave Hawl camp in NE Syria

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – In coordination with the Iraqi government, 148 Iraqi families left on Saturday Hawl camp in Hasakah countryside, northeastern Syria.

A source in Hawl camp told North Press that “578 Iraqis, divided into 148 families, left the camp today in coordination with the Iraqi government.”

This is the 20th batch since the beginning of coordination between the Iraqi government and the Autonomous Administration on North and East Syria (AANES) to evacuate Iraqi refugees from the camp, and the second of its kind since the beginning of 2025.

Earlier in 2024, Iraqi Deputy Minister of Immigration Kareem al-Nouri stated to the Iraqi News Agency that individuals with security files and blood on their hands cannot return to Iraq, referring to Iraqi nationals located in the Syrian Hawl camp.

Al-Nouri said that there are about 54,000 people in the camp, including 20,000 Iraqis, and revealed the return of 4,000 Iraqis from the camp.
