Rubio talks with Turkey’s Fidan on inclusive transition in Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed on Thursday the Syrian crisis during a phone call with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive political transition in Syria.
In a statement, U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce highlighted Rubio’s remarks, stressing the importance of ensuring that any new government in Syria prevents the country from becoming a source of international terrorism.
The call took place on Wednesday, according to the statement.
Rubio’s comments reflect a stance consistent with that of the previous Biden administration. Former Secretary of State Antony Blinken used similar language during his visit to the region in December 2024, following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in early December.
