DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Defense Minister Marahf Abu Qasra stated on Wednesday that the issue of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is under deliberation with the new Syrian leadership and confirmed the military’s readiness to act if necessary.
Speaking to reporters in Damascus, Abu Qasra revealed that negotiations with the SDF are ongoing but emphasized that the ministry is prepared for all potential outcomes.
Border Security Concerns
The minister highlighted security gaps along Syria’s eastern borders, which remain outside the government’s control. “There is a security breach along the eastern border that needs addressing as it is beyond our jurisdiction,” he remarked.
Integration of Military Factions
Abu Qasra also discussed efforts to unify Syria’s fragmented military landscape, confirming that the ministry has engaged over 70 armed factions from various regions of the country.
“Ministry officials have met with all military factions to integrate them into the national army,” he stated, adding that all groups have expressed willingness to join the Ministry of Defense.
Southern Front and Israel
On the southern front, Abu Qasra addressed Israel’s continued incursions into southern Syria, describing them as a pressing challenge. He revealed that a third-party mediator is working to pressure Israel to withdraw from recently seized territories.
“Israel is using the pretext of factionalism in southern Syria to advance its occupation,” Abu Qasra said. He stressed the need for a coordinated response to address Israeli advances in the region.
Uncertain Outlook
With the SDF negotiations ongoing and regional security concerns mounting, Syria faces significant challenges in consolidating authority and ensuring stability across its territory.
The defense minister’s comments underscore the complexities of rebuilding Syria’s military and territorial integrity amid persistent internal and external threats.
