QAMISHLI, SYRIA (North Press) – Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani urged unity and cooperation among Syrian Kurdish political factions during a meeting with the Syrian Kurdish National Council (ENKS) leadership in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan, on Tuesday.
Barzani emphasized the need for Syrian Kurdish parties to work collectively to safeguard Kurdish rights and shape their future through peaceful means, free from external interference.
A Call for Joint Efforts
The meeting with ENKS leadership follows discussions held last Thursday between Barzani and General Mazloum Abdi, the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). During their talks, both leaders stressed the importance of Syrian Kurdish parties uniting to decide their fate independently and through dialogue.
Barzani and Abdi highlighted that achieving Kurdish rights requires a unified stance and coordinated efforts, which are essential for negotiating agreements with the new Syrian administration.
Addressing Political and Security Developments
In the meeting with ENKS representatives, Barzani discussed political and security developments in Syria and the progress of dialogue and rapprochement among Syrian Kurdish factions.
The talks also touched upon the outcomes of General Mazloum Abdi’s recent visit to Erbil, where he met with Barzani to discuss strategies for fostering Kurdish unity in the face of ongoing challenges.
Importance of Kurdish Solidarity
Barzani’s appeal for Kurdish unity comes amid a critical period for Syrian Kurds, as they navigate a complex political landscape following the fall of the Assad regime. Strengthening ties among Kurdish parties is seen as a crucial step in ensuring their collective interests are represented in Syria’s evolving political framework.
By fostering collaboration, Syrian Kurds aim to secure their rights and contribute to the stability and rebuilding of their homeland.
