SDF regains control of posts in Deir ez-Zor after attack by armed groups
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) regained on Monday night control of key military positions and posts in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, following an attack by armed groups.
Militants affiliated with Ibrahim al-Hefl, backed by Iran, launched attacks on SDF positions in the towns of Diban, al-Zur, and Suwaydan, located in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
A military source in Deir ez-Zor told North Press that the SDF successfully reclaimed the bases and military posts after initially withdrawing due to the assault.
The attackers had crossed the Euphrates River from its western bank to target the area of Diban and its surroundings.
Intense clashes erupted between the two sides and continued for hours, particularly in the towns of eastern Deir ez-Zor, the source said.
The source further noted that the SDF arrested a significant number of militants after encircling them in parts of eastern Deir ez-Zor. Several of the captured individuals sustained injuries during the confrontations.
In response to the attacks, the SDF has strengthened its military presence in the region, establishing new posts and conducting patrols to ensure security and stability, the source added.
