DEIR EZ-ZOR, SYRIA (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) issued a statement on Monday condemning recent “sabotage actions” that have escalated in the towns of Dhiban and Tayyana in eastern Deir ez-Zor.
The attacks, which occurred on Sunday evening, targeted SDF outposts and patrols in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, further destabilizing the already volatile region.
Sabotage by Remnants of Baath Regime
In its statement, the SDF attributed the attacks to remnants of the former Baath regime and affiliated National Defense militias. The group accused these actors of engaging in disruptive activities such as blocking major roads and targeting security and service facilities to spread chaos and instability in the area.
“Cells from the remnants of the former Baath regime and National Defense militias have continued their sabotage actions in the towns of Dhiban and Tayyana, aiming to disrupt daily life and sow disorder,” the statement read.
Pledge to Restore Stability
The SDF vowed to take decisive action against those responsible for the attacks, with the Deir ez-Zor Military Council taking the lead in pursuing the perpetrators.
“Our forces will not tolerate such attempts and will respond with full force, ensuring that those responsible are arrested and brought to justice,” the statement emphasized.
The SDF also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the international coalition to maintain security in the region. The collaboration aims to prevent any resurgence of ISIS cells, which continue to pose a threat in Syria’s eastern territories.
Acknowledging Community Support
The statement concluded by praising the awareness and cooperation of Deir ez-Zor’s residents, acknowledging their role in supporting security efforts.
“The SDF values the cooperation of local communities in ensuring safety and stability,” the statement added, calling for continued vigilance and collaboration with security forces.
Broader Context
Eastern Deir ez-Zor has been a hotspot for security challenges, including ISIS sleeper cell activities and clashes involving local tribes and militias. The SDF, with the support of the U.S.-led international coalition, has been working to stabilize the area through military operations and community engagement.
As the situation remains tense, the SDF’s intensified efforts underscore its determination to counter threats and maintain order in the region.
