U.S. welcomes Abdi-Barzani key meeting

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. Department of State welcomed a recent meeting between General Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Former President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).

In a statement shared on the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs’ official account on the platform X, the U.S. Department of State highlighted the significance of the dialogue.

It stated that the discussions between Abdi and Barzani could play a pivotal role in advancing an inclusive political transition in Syria.

The meeting between Abdi and Barzani was held in Erbil on Jan. 16. It focused on the situation in Syria and recent political and security developments in the region.
