HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – German envoy to the Middle East, Tobias Tunkel, discussed on Sunday with Mazloum Abdi, Commander in Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), pressing issues, including the rights of Kurds in Syria.
Tunkel, MENA Director at Germany’s Federal Foreign Office, emphasized that the rights and interests of Syrian Kurds could best be safeguarded through internal Syrian dialogue between the SDF and the new Syrian administration.
“Rights and interests of Syrian Kurds can best be safeguarded in an inner-Syrian dialogue with Damascus.”
He highlighted the importance of direct communication between the SDF and HTS leadership and explored joint efforts in combating the Islamic State (ISIS).
Moreover, U.S. State Department’s Syria Regional Platform Director, Nicholas Granger, stated that the United States is prepared to fully support any future Syrian government formed through a comprehensive and transparent process that reflects the will of the Syrian people.
Granger added in an exclusive statement to North Press that the U.S. maintains communication with the “interim authorities in Damascus, authorities in the northeast, and diverse Syrians nationwide to advocate for an inclusive, non-sectarian, Syrian-led political transition that represents all communities.”
