Negotiations between SDF, Damascus show promise of agreement
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Negotiations between the new Syrian administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are characterized by patience and flexibility, potentially paving the way for an agreement in the coming months, Reuters reported on Sunday citing sources.
Reuters suggested, based on insider information, that negotiators are moving closer to a possible resolution between the new Syrian leadership and the SDF.
Sources directly involved in the recent intensive discussions reveal that diplomats and military representatives from the United States, Turkey, Syria, and the SDF have demonstrated greater patience and flexibility than their public statements might suggest.
These developments could lead to an agreement in the coming months, one that may involve some Kurdish fighters leaving the volatile northeast and others being integrated under the authority of Syria’s Ministry of Defense.
However, several contentious issues remain unresolved. Among them are the integration of the SDF’s well-trained and armed fighters into Syria’s security framework and the management of territories under SDF control, which include critical oil fields and wheat-producing regions, according to Reuters.
Following the fall of the previous regime, Syria has entered a new political era, marked by efforts to establish a foundation for dialogue and agreements that satisfy all parties, including the SDF.
