Turkish Drones Target Residential Building in Syria’s Qamishli

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Internal Security Forces (Asayish) announced on Friday that Turkish drones targeted a residential building in the western neighborhood of Qamishli, northeastern Syria, resulting in significant material damage.

Two consecutive explosions were heard in the city, which were later confirmed to have originated from fuel tanks on the rooftop of a residential building. The tanks, used by residents for heating, caught fire following the drone strike.

Details of the Attack

The Asayish stated in a press release that “Turkish drones bombed a residential building in the center of Qamishli. The attack caused material damage and led to the ignition of fuel tanks on the rooftop, resulting in two large explosions.”

Eyewitnesses reported seeing plumes of smoke rising from the building as residents rushed to evacuate. No casualties have been reported so far, but the incident has caused panic among civilians in the area.

Appeal for International Action

In its statement, the Asayish condemned the attack and called on the international community to take a decisive stance against what it described as “inhumane practices aimed at destabilizing the security and stability of northeastern Syria.”

This incident is part of an ongoing escalation in the region, where Turkish forces have increasingly relied on drone strikes to target areas controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Growing Tensions

The attack comes amid heightened tensions between Turkey and the SDF in northern Syria, with frequent cross-border shelling and aerial operations reported in recent weeks.

Human rights organizations have raised concerns about the impact of Turkish military actions on civilian populations, particularly in densely populated urban areas like Qamishli.

Background

Qamishli, a key city in northeastern Syria, is under the administration of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). The city has been a frequent target of Turkish military operations, which Ankara claims are aimed at securing its borders against alleged threats from the SDF and affiliated groups.

The ongoing violence has disrupted the lives of thousands of residents, with many calling for stronger international intervention to ensure their safety.
