ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – The Health Authority of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria revealed on Thursday that Turkish airstrikes near Tishreen Dam resulted in the deaths of medical workers and the destruction of ambulances. The strikes targeted a civilian convoy headed to the dam to protest ongoing Turkish aggression.
In a statement, the Health Authority confirmed, “On January 15, 2025, Turkey deliberately struck a civilian convoy heading to Tishreen Dam in solidarity with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and to protect the dam.”
Casualties and Equipment Losses
The attack left 19 individuals injured and four others, including medical personnel, missing. Additionally, five ambulances were either severely damaged or destroyed.
Despite these losses, the Health Authority reaffirmed its commitment to saving lives and providing healthcare under difficult and dangerous conditions. “Our medical teams remain determined to fulfill their mission of delivering critical care, despite Turkey’s ongoing threats and attacks,” the statement read.
Call for Accountability
The Health Authority condemned the deliberate targeting of civilians and medical teams, emphasizing that such actions violate international humanitarian laws.
“This deliberate targeting of civilians, particularly medical personnel, must not go unnoticed. The international community, including humanitarian and rights organizations, should urgently address these violations,” the statement urged.
Appeal to the International Community
The Health Authority called on influential actors, including the U.S.-led Coalition and international organizations, to take concrete measures against Turkey’s attacks.
The strikes on Tishreen Dam have drawn widespread criticism amid fears of escalating violence and its impact on critical infrastructure and civilian populations. Turkey’s actions have raised concerns over potential humanitarian disasters in northern Syria.
The Health Authority concluded by emphasizing the need for serious international intervention to hold Turkey accountable for its continued violations against unarmed civilians and essential service providers.
