Global Coalition drone kills 2 individuals in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Two individuals were killed on Wednesday in a drone strike, reportedly carried out by the U.S.-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, in the countryside of Idlib, northwestern Syria.

The strike targeted a motorcycle at a roundabout in the city of Sarmada, north of Idlib, near the Syrian-Turkish border.

On Dec. 20, 2024, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the death of an Islamic State (ISIS) leader in a precise airstrike in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

Local sources informed North Press that a Coalition drone targeted a motorcycle at the Sarmada roundabout, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.

The sources identified the victims as Mohammad Fayyad al-Dhayban and Nayef Hamoud al-Aliwi, both from eastern Idlib. They added that al-Aliwi was a former leader in the Hurras al-Din faction.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) also reported on the incident, stating that a Coalition drone targeted a motorcycle with three missiles on the road to the Qala’a camp northwest of Sarmada. According to SOHR, the strike killed two individuals and injured another bystander.

The U.S.-led Global Coalition has been engaged in the fight against ISIS for years in both Syria and Iraq. Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, the coalition has reiterated its commitment to targeting ISIS remnants and preventing the group’s resurgence in the region.
