Kurdish-led SDF Denies Turkish Media Claims, Highlights Locally Developed Drone Technology

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) revealed on Tuesday that the drones recently employed in their operations are the result of self-developed technology by the people of northeast Syria, dismissing allegations of a drone deal with Iran as baseless propaganda.
Farhad Shami, head of the SDF Media Center, stated in an official announcement that the drones were developed locally, drawing on the military experience gained during the fight against ISIS.
False Claims of Iranian Collaboration
Shami strongly criticized Turkish state-aligned media outlets for fabricating stories about an alleged transaction between the SDF and Iran involving the purchase of 1,500 drones.
“These claims are entirely false and fabricated. The Turkish media’s aim is to harm our forces, discredit our people, and distort our cause in the eyes of the international community,” Shami emphasized.
He accused Turkish media of perpetuating a campaign of misinformation aligned with Ankara’s policies targeting the Kurdish and other populations of northeast Syria.
Locally Developed Technology
According to Shami, the SDF’s recent advancements in drone technology were made possible through the region’s accumulated combat experience, particularly in the battle against ISIS.
“Our drones are a purely local innovation, created by the people of northeast Syria through self-reliance and determination,” he said.
Shami highlighted the role of the region’s engineers and technicians in overcoming challenges to bolster the SDF’s military capabilities.
Propaganda Amid Tensions
The statement comes amid heightened tensions between the SDF and Turkish forces, with Turkey escalating its rhetoric and military actions in northern Syria. Ankara has repeatedly accused the SDF of ties to groups it deems terrorist organizations, a narrative widely disputed by the SDF and its international allies.
Turkey’s allegations, including the drone claims, are seen as part of a broader strategy to undermine the SDF’s legitimacy and international standing.
Ongoing Efforts
The SDF’s development of indigenous military technology underscores its efforts to enhance self-reliance in the face of persistent threats from Turkey and other regional actors.
As northeast Syria continues to navigate complex political and security challenges, the SDF remains a critical partner for the international coalition in combating ISIS and ensuring regional stability.
