Security source reveals activity of ISIS cell in Raqqa
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – A security source said on Tuesday that a group of Islamic State (ISIS) cells were seen active in the countryside of Raqqa in northern Syria.
The source told North Press that ISIS militants had arrived on the outskirts of the town of Madan Atik, located in the eastern countryside of Raqqa. The group demanded a list of names from local residents.
According to the source, the list in question included the names of tribal leaders and former members of the Syrian regime. The group also requested drinking water and logistical supplies before departing for an unknown destination.
In response to the arrival of ISIS members, local forces affiliated with the Military Operations Command established checkpoints near the main street of Madan Atik to enhance security.
The source further noted an uptick in ISIS activity within areas under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), contrasting with a decline in such operations across most other regions in Syria.
