SDF, Syrian leadership agree to form committees for dialogue – Official
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – An official of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) revealed on Saturday that the new Syrian leadership and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have agreed to establish joint military, economic, security, and administrative committees.
This agreement followed a significant meeting between the two sides late last year.
In an exclusive interview with North Press, Ali Rahmon, Deputy Co-Chair of the SDC, described the discussions between the SDF and new Syrian leadership as “very important and positive.”
While he refrained from disclosing specific details regarding the demands of the Syrian leadership or the conditions set by the SDF, he emphasized that “dialogue was the guiding principle” throughout the talks.
Rahmon added that the purpose of these committees is to address disputes and challenges through constructive dialogue.
He expressed optimism that the committees could achieve genuine agreements to build a united Syria.
The SDC official reaffirmed the SDC and SDF’s commitment to a unified Syria where all regions, including Northeast Syria and East of the Euphrates, contribute to rebuilding the country.
He clarified that this vision of unity differs from the centralized approach historically pursued by the regime. Instead, it is based on equal opportunity and genuine participation in governance.
The SDC leader expressed hope that these committees would serve as a meaningful opportunity for Syrian reconciliation and cooperation.
While Rahmon did not specify when these committees would begin their meetings, he stated that the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) is fully prepared. “The ball is now in the court of the new Syrian leadership,” he added.
The meeting was attended by Ahmad al-Sharaa, Syria’s de facto leader, and SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi. During the talks, al-Sharaa presented several demands, while the SDF outlined conditions for addressing these requests.
