France signals potential easing of EU sanctions on Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced on Wednesday that some sanctions imposed on Syria might be lifted in the near future.
Barrot stated that European Union sanctions related to humanitarian aspects could be lifted quickly, signaling a shift in policy aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by Syrians.
“There are sanctions targeting Bashar al-Assad and the executioners of his regime, there is clearly no intention to lift these sanctions,” Barrot added.
He indicated that there are other sanctions which currently hinder access to humanitarian aid, which prevent Syria’s recovery and “these could be lifted quickly.”
