American official says U.S. committed to ensure permanent defeat of ISIS
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A U.S. State Department official said on Tuesday that they are committed to continuing efforts to ensure the ultimate defeat of the Islamic State (ISIS).
The U.S. Department of State stated that ISIS is exploiting instability in the region and that all countries must use their influence on the ground to promote stability, dialogue, and restraint.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) say that ISIS is exploiting attacks in northern Syria and recent developments in the country to increase its assaults, with both forces publishing several statements regarding attacks targeting fighters and security checkpoints.
In response to North Press’s inquiries, the official added that the United States recognizes that ISIS still poses a significant threat to the region and is committed to continuing efforts to ensure its permanent defeat.
Commenting on the clashes between the SDF and Turkish-backed armed factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), in the countryside of Manbij and around the Tishrin Dam, and the impact of these battles on the political process in Syria, the official noted that they are closely monitoring developments.
He declined to address specific diplomatic discussions regarding the clashes and urged all parties to de-escalate.
