CENTCOM announces conducting operations against ISIS in Syria, Iraq

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Monday the conduct of multiple operations with “partner forces” against ISIS locations in northern Iraq and eastern Syria.

In Syria, from Jan. 2 to Jan. 3, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), with CENTCOM’s support, conducted an operation near Deir ez-Zor.

The operation led to the capture of an ISIS attack cell leader, further disrupting the group’s capacity to organize attacks in the region.

In Iraq, the CENTCOM and Iraqi forces carried out multiple strikes in the Hamrin mountains. The strikes targeted known ISIS locations, aiming to degrade the group’s ability to plan and execute attacks against civilians, allies, and U.S. personnel.

The CENTCOM added that ISIS militants engaged its forces, prompting the use of air support from F-16s, F-15s, and A-10 aircraft. Notably, A-10 strikes successfully neutralized ISIS fighters hiding in a cave, according to a statement

During the operation, a member of the Global Coalition forces was killed, and two others were wounded, representing personnel from two different nations. However, no U.S. personnel were injured, and no U.S. equipment sustained damage, the statement read.

CENTCOM Commander Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla emphasized the importance of these joint efforts, stating, “Partnered operations like these are critical to maintaining pressure on ISIS and preventing the terrorist group from taking advantage of the rapidly changing security environment in the region.”

“The enduring defeat of ISIS is a global effort that relies on our Coalition, allies, and partners,” he added. “U.S. Central Command remains committed to aggressively pursuing these terrorists that threaten the region, our allies, and our citizens.”
