Macron says France will not abandon Kurdish fighters in Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed on Monday that France will not abandon Kurdish fighters who have played a critical role in combating terrorism in Syria.
During a conference for French ambassadors in Paris, Macron also cautioned against viewing the issue of regime change in Syria with naivety.
He reiterated France’s commitment to supporting a long-term transitional process that promotes a sovereign Syria, respecting its ethnic, political, and sectarian diversity, according to French media.
French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, told North Press last week that Kurds should have an integral role in shaping the future of Syria.
Moreover, Macron also pledged continued support for “freedom fighters, like the Kurds,” who have been instrumental in combating terrorism, particularly against the Islamic State (ISIS).
