Blinken to meet European counterparts in Rome on Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. Department of State announced that Secretary of State Antony Blinken plans to meet with European foreign ministers in Rome next Thursday to discuss Syria.
In a statement, the State Department explained that Blinken’s meeting with his European counterparts aims to support a peaceful and inclusive political transition, led and owned by the Syrian people.
The statement did not specify which European ministers will participate in the discussions.
On Sunday, Blinken held a phone conversation with Egypt’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, to discuss the situation in Syria and reaffirm support for a comprehensive and peaceful political transition.
Earlier, the foreign ministers of France and Germany issued a joint statement reiterating their commitment to a peaceful transfer of power in Syria that reflects the country’s diverse society.
