Syrian Finance Minister announces upcoming 400% salary increase
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Ministry of Finance in the Syrian caretaker government Muhammad Abdulhalim Abazid announced on Sunday that public sector employees would soon receive a substantial salary increase of 400 percent.
In an exclusive interview with North Press, Abazid confirmed that salaries for civil servants would be disbursed no later than tomorrow.
The minister explained that the salary hike is part of an ongoing restructuring of government ministries initiated after the fall of the previous regime.
This process uncovered significant administrative inefficiencies. As a result, a reevaluation of the workforce is underway to prioritize active and motivated employees for the new salary framework.
Abazid noted that while a portion of the public sector workforce will benefit from the new pay scale, others will continue to receive salaries consistent with the rates established under the former regime.
He reassured employees that there would be no arbitrary dismissals, adding that a judicial committee is currently reviewing the issue of pensions for retired military personnel to determine a payment schedule.
The minister also highlighted plans to introduce “Sham Cash,” a digital platform designed to simplify the salary disbursement process, within the coming months.
