Landmine blast kills child, injures 3 in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A 12-year-old boy was killed, and three others were injured on Sunday when a landmine exploded in a town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A local source told North Press that the landmine was a remnant of Iranian-backed militias that had previously controlled the area, and it exploded in the village of Mazloum in the southeast of Deir ez-Zor.

The explosion occurred while the children were playing on the outskirts of the village.

The incident resulted in the killing of a 12-year-old boy and the injury of three others.

One of the injured had to have a leg amputated due to the severity of the injury, while the other two were transferred to hospitals in Raqqa for urgent medical care as their conditions deteriorated.

This incident highlights the ongoing danger posed by unexploded remnants of war in Syria, particularly in areas previously held by armed groups.
